The Sad Song of Chekovsky
A third section emerges, and the sadness of the second movement suddenly comes back to us. But while the second movement's deep pain was evident from the start, this is a sad song of a simpler kind. It is slightly less world-weary and more nostalgic than anything else. And it's amazing that in a movement of such a virtuosity, Chekovsky finds a way to include such a lyrical moment. There's no better example of that in this recording than this spot.
