The Role of Culture in Cognitive Novelties

evolutionary biologists typically point to things like elephant trunks or bird feathers. These are traits that appear in the evolutionary record which really open up a new space for evolutionary exploration. And so cognitive novelties, at least as I have been using the term is exactly like that. But it allows us to make sense of claims from recent cultural evolutionary researchers who are saying that culture itself plays at an important role originating and developing these kinds of cognitive novelties.
