Queen Seria and Amena Lacan
Queen seria and her husband were also changing social norms for women. At one public event, amena lacan announced that islam not require women to cover their bodies or wear any special kind of veil. Then queen Seria removed her veil, and the wives of the other politicall followed. In pictures, she could almost pass for a flapper on the streets of new york city. She lived in the strictest seclusion in cabul. The narrative about her that was sort of perpetuatedn in the european news was that she was a prisoner until she travelled west. And i think, you know, it's amazing that those narratives were so prevalent even then.
