Derek Walmsley: If Mark is a Pauline gospel, then we have a motive for this author to take over the real life of Jesus and rework it into the Pauline framework. So he's taking over these parables about the kingdom arriving through gradual spreading of good treatment of others being decent to others. That's how the reign of God comes about, right? He doesn't like them very well. His main thing is to have Jesus talk in apocalyptic terms in chapter 13. But he's kind of forced because he knows that Jesus thought in parables all the time. And so I would suggest we can see there before our eyes, actually the transformation of the historical Jesus
