In February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data showing that teen girls are engulfed in what they called a wave of sadness and violence. Nearly one in three teen girls has seriously considered suicide. Why are girls suffering so much more than boys? Which teens are more at risk? And what can parents, peers, schools and communities do to help teens cope with such widespread distress? Dr. Kathleen Eathier is Director of the CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health.
