The Importance of Manufacturing Jobs in India

The working age population in India is about 870 million people. We have a very low labor force participation rate, which means that around 450 million people are in the labor force. If you look at the permanent employment amongst this, this is just some 36 million people. So I think that's a very small percentage of our population, and that explains a lot of our poverty in our country. Many countries moved from the agricultural economy to manufacturing and then on to services.
