In 1992, it was discovered by Weiser at all that patients with atherosclerosis have more oxidized LDL versus healthy patients. Thus, numerous lines of evidence implicate the oxidation of linoleic acid is a major cause for increased oxidation of LDL and hence increased risk for coronary heart disease. A diet higher in oleic acid, which is found in healthier oils like olive oil, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts and so forth, are lower in linolei acid and they decrease LDL susceptibility to oxidation.
