Inclusionary nationalists tend to be very inclusive in terms of who gets to belong. Restrictive nationalists have exclusionary notions of national membership particularly along the lines of ethnicity and religion. The disengagers are sort of low in all these variables so they tend to be more likely to vote for populist candidates. These nationalist cleavages are really important predictors of voting preferences as a result, says David Frum.
