The Genetic Basis for Skin Pigmentation in African Populations

The genetic basis for skin pigmentation varies depending on what population you look at. Individuals who are living in like low UV areas that are very distantly related genetically seem to evolve lighter skin. Individuals and populations that live in high UV areas converge on having darker skin. In some cases, we see that the same genes are being called upon with different variants underlying the exact mutation in these different populations. So both are available possible and visible in humans.
