Is There a Game in Metrics?

A lot of gamification offers this trade where they give us the intense rush pleasure of the clarity of games. It's also coming on top of this huge long trend towards more and more metrics for every aspect of our lives. I've been spending actually the last two years not reading philosophy and just reading the history of quantification and bureaucracy. And that, as far as I can tell, is a product of increasing centralized bureaucratization and efficient bureaucrats.
