The size and the humanemic consequences of the shunt are things we can pick up an echo and also are huge in terms of determining management. A hemodynamically significant shunt is one in which there is a QP to QS ratio that is greater than 1.5 to 1. By echocardiogram, it's technically difficult to directly assess the QP and QS, but the presence of left atrium and left ventricular dilation on echo represents that hemodynamicallysignificant shunt.
