Christianity and liberalism seems somewhat prophetic today. I think we have to distinguish between what Magens doing and maybe what the particular liberalism of our time and culture is. Just set up the historical context in which the book was written and maybe the aim and goal of Machin or the world around Machin so that we can understand how to apply it to the same questions as subject today.
