The Benefits of Thought Experiments

Some of these thought experiments are actually entertaining many stories in themselves. The fact that they're not complete arguments though again isn't really something that tells against them because I think there's a really interesting general question about how philosophy works. People like to believe that philosophy always works by a kind of a rigorous argument which can be reduced to a set of premises moving to conclusions and so forth. But you know I've got a little bit more skeptical of that view over the years. They're a way of making you say look isn't this how it is.
