The Awkwardness of Slavery
The awfulness of slavery is not subtle. It's just so obviously awful on a human level that like, you know, you watch a movie like 12 years of slave, for example, makes you like physically ill. And yet, this institution persisted in the American South for generations and everybody was sort of on board with it. Lizzie: I have to believe there was somebody out there who had a reaction to this and was like, maybe we ought to rethink this.
