Cloud Formation: A New Tool for Managing Rollbacks
If one of those updates fails, cloud formation will manage the rollback for you. It doesn't support all the resource types, but I think there's a growing set. There are hooks to execute arbitrary code at different stages in the deployment lifecycle. And again, because it's Jason or Yamal, it's fairly flat and declarative and not very dynamic.
