The natural world is so complicated, and every theory that we put on top of it is just a map. It's not like nature distinguishes between quantum and newtonian physics. Normal science often suppresses fundamental novelties because they are necessarily subversive of its basic commitments. And i think that my favorite example of this is ptolemaic versus copernican astronomy. If you don't know everything revolves around the earth, how could this be happening? Then you kind of have to say, oh, well, obviously they're jst like spinning in place a little bit, and that’s why they sem to go backwards, like s suc.
