How the Danes Reacted to the Threats of the European Kingdoms
The rise of stronger more centralized royal kingdoms in the rest of Europe to the south started to make unity and concerted defense seem more necessary. And so particularly over the course of the 900s, Norse kings started to build up larger courts, receiving diplomats and visitors. The Danes responded to this constant repeating threat from the south with a great deal of defiance. But after that point through most of the rest of the 800s and 900s, there's very little reliable information about the kings from within Denmark.
