i've asked the individual who was responsible for generating the plots, and i've not received an answer. Why wouldn't tampering of images invalidate the results? Well, in this case, the editing of the images was in regions of the blot that was unrelated to the data that the experiment was intended to m tm. And so the conclusion from looking at that lot was unchanged.
