I think there's obviously a very important prehistory in European thought for all of these sorts of arguments. By European standards, the critiques in this country are fairly moderate. You start to get some of that in the 60s and 70s. Typically, the assumption that some new or some refurbished way of thinking is just going to solve the problem.
