Kim Il-sung was one of the most effective and dangerous rights Bruce Cummings has ever met. As a young man, Kim joined a Communist group which earned him arrest by the Japanese authorities. In Manchuria, at least 200,000 gorillas took up arms against the Japanese Empire in the early 30s. The invasion of Manchuria by Japan, many would argue, marks the true origin of the Second World War.
