Every generation of Jesus' followers sees itself as the people who were sitting with Jesus at that final meal. We eat the story, we participate in it. And what is Jesus' view of the world? He thinks he's rescuing people by dying. So think of how the Passover story works and what he's doing with this meal. Through the lamb, a very rich symbol, the lamb's death. Who's he rescuing?
