For thousands of years, northern egypt had a wetter climate and animal populations stretched across areas that are now complete desert. This damp period in ancient, prehistoric africa is one of the reasons that you can find beautiful rock carvings at places which could not support human life to day. By the fourth millennium b ce, agricultural communities had certainly cropped up along the nile. And pinch writes that it might have helped shape the idea in egyptian mythology that the world was once different.
