The Striking Style of Greek Statuary

Ancient Greek monumental sculpture was composed almost entirely of marble or bronze with cast bronze becoming the favorite medium from major works by the early 5th century BC. Other works though such as figurines were in a great variety of materials with the most popular being terracotta. Palette-style statues were mostly found around temples and other major Greek buildings. Both marble and bronze are fortunately easy to form and very durable. No doubt there was also sculpture made in wood about which we know little except for acrolithic sculptures which sat atop temples.
