A St. Andrews Cross spider is from Queensland, which we collected whilst looking out for crocodiles. The male Huntsman has sensors in his legs so he can taste the silk and it gives him information about the female. He'll nibble her legs a little bit, caught her, create some vibrations. And then will he do all the things that you described? I think a 50% chance that he'll survive the first mating. Good odds. It feels really sinister to watch. They pay me to watch them.
