The Bombing of a Second Boeing 707
The replica bomb was diffused and the explosives were replaced with a light bulb. The plane climbed to eight and a half thousand feet before beginning its precarious descent. When it dropped to five thousand feet, the light bulb on the altitude activator came on. Had the explosives remained inside, the aircraft would have been blown to smithereens. Qantas considered Sydney's emergency facilities superior to Brisbane's and decided to bring the plane back to Sydney instead.
