The Importance of Islamic Law

Ibn Khazim first developed an interest in law out of embarrassment. After a flirtation with the Shafiis, he eventually became a staunch advocate of the Zahiri legal theory. He rejected even the moderate use of reasoning and independent judgment embraced by a Shafi. All legal reasoning must be based explicitly on the evident, or manifest, meaning of a religious proof text.
