Malaria and Returning Traveler

A 51 year old man with a history of hypertension who presented for evaluation of fevers, confusion, lethargy, and a 35 pound weight loss. He had been confused at home and had some difficulty with word finding. His symptoms progressed to the point where he was having nightly fevers. A CT scan of his chest, abdomen, and pelvis showed diffuse lymphadenopathy but no evidence of malignancy.
