The Importance of Suffering in Christian History
Suffering has been so fundamental to Christian history. One person who has always struck me is especially impressive from the Middle Ages is Elizabeth of Hungary. The yearning to identify with and emulate the sufferings of Christ on occasion is branded by the church as heresy. On other occasions, it's saluted by them as the behavior of saints.
