The Challenges of Writing a Short Story
Evelyna uses the personal universal element so effectively in that even though I'm not Filipino, even though I have not had these experiences, I am immediately attached to her characters. The thing that I love about the short story is that these are character driven stories and you don't have a whole lot of time. Because a world can be so interesting that you get lost as a writer into that world and you forget that there's somebody here trying to solve a problem.
