The Machine and the Imagination

Faber's machine spoke original sentences that people could, for the most part, understand. But coding intelligible information and sounding like speech are two completely different things. A lot of people could tell what the machine was saying, but still they were not very impressed by what they heard. The inventor slept in the same room as his figure, his scientific Frankenstein monster.
