Helen professed to be a militant atheist, although the situation I think was more complicated. Bill seemed to be an agnostic. They were both believers in science really over religion. And this joining of theirs had no spiritual content, like I said. So they were making a choice that looks secular, but if one could peer into their unconscious, there was actually underlying spiritual motivation in them.
