Is Abraham a New Adam?

Abraham is being portrayed as another Adam who's failing at the commission that God has given him to do. I almost kind of wonder if Abraham is receding a little bit on his monotheism and is culturally accommodating himself to polytheistic of him. If there's ever a time that Abraham needs to be protecting his wife it's right now between the promises of Isaac's birth and the fulfillment of those promises when he's born in chapter 21.
