Chastlo left YouTube in 2012. He did not know about a new AI called reinforce that Google had just instituted, or instituted, in 2015 to YouTube. Reinforced focused on a new kind of machine learning, called reinforcement learning. It was designed to maximize users' engagement over time by predicting which recommendations would expand their tastes and get them to watch many more videos.
