Those of us who follow the stoic path will be challenged by rough road and tossed by stormy seas as we develop our moral character. It is a difficult path, but it is worth the effort because it leads toward true well-being. The excellent character developed along the way is pure gold that has been tested by the fire of fate. We fall short of the stoic ideal when we use the powerful tools of stoic practice to produce gold exclusively for our own selfish interests.
