Talent Is a Real Thing, but It's Not Everything

I still get my head around when I encounter low diligence in an elite athlete and think, how did you get here? It must just be a gift. That's the reality as well is that they're in again emphasizing this idea that talent is a real thing because we see this variability in the pathways. Some people are able to get to a fairly high standard with almost minimal effort and minimal engagement. Other people are head down multiple years of hard work, sacrifice, diligence, like you said, and they end up in the same place. None of those things make sense based on the variability that we see.
