Because these empires are well connected and because they're densely populated, the plague really has a absolutely devastating impact. But the Arabian Peninsula is largely spared. And so when in the decades after the death of Muhammad, the Islamic Arabian armies push out of the peninsula, they're basically pushing against an open door.
