The Importance of Self-Knowledge
I think Janaon is in some ways more religious than she is but also less respectful of these kind of like sublime experiences. She has several really beautiful passages where she talks about the sex that they're having and she calls it blank sex. I mean would it be fair to say that they're both people who lack a certain type of self knowledge? It's part of what's interesting about the book because she is so observant of him and of herself that at the same time there's like kind of a mystery.
