The Science of Voraciousness
The average American family metabolizes four million pounds of material every year to support their lifestyle. Most of that consumption is offshore and in mines, stockyards, slagheaps, landfills, and wastewater treatment plants. Billowing gases migrate to the stratosphere and double glaze the planet on behalf of us all. The constant expansion of desire and material goods forms our current definition of a healthy economy.
