The Lord's Secret Is Revealed to His Servants, the Prophets
The first four visions all open with amos's description of something that the lord showed him. Amos then pleads with the lord that he relent from the judgment, both times using similar words on account of the fact that jacob is so small. And then the lord relenting in amos chapter three, verse seven, we read that the lord god does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants, the prophets. We have an example of this principle in genesis when the lord declares to abraham his plan to destroy sodom.
