In May 2023, we attended IMMUNOLOGY2023, the annual meeting of the American Association of Immunologists in Washington, DC, and recorded daily episodes discussing highlights of the previous 24 hours. Here is the first of five special episodes from the meeting, in which Jason and Brenda summarize symposia on B and T-helper cells, and metabolic and gut microbiota. They discuss antigenic imprinting, lupus immunophenotyping and sex differences, dengue vaccines, and cytomegalovirus research.

The Effects of CD4 Cells on Antibody Responses to CMV Infection
Mira Lacuca from the Vitas el Ute San Rafaela University in Milan also was looking to CMV and particularly in the balance between TH1 and T follicular helper differentiation. And she kind of shows that there is a suppression. So if you have a CD4 upon LCMV infection, you have CD4 responses that are initiated. The acquisition of a TH1 profile upon infection by CD4 cells seems to be directly inhibiting the development of T follicular helpers. This has a negative effect on the antibody response. Can we use that? Can we target that? I guess that is the future of this particular research.
