Officer Lacey noticed blobs on his windshield at 3 a.m., so he used the wipers to try and remove them. Later that same day, Officer Lacey began feeling sick and complaining he had flu-like symptoms such as fatigue and nausea. Dottie Hearn also felt ill later that day experiencing chills, blurry vision, vertigo, and nausea. Her children found her passed out appearing to be sweaty and pale.
