Do You Need a Compass to Make a Mandala?

I like to draw out the major sections, and I have a very vague sort of picture of it in my mind. But from there, once I draw the sort of the borders with my pencil, from there is all a screen of conscious. Do you determine the design before you start drawing the mandala? No, that's okay.
