A Poem About Jeffrey Hartman

The poet used the letters as a kind of emotional and intellectual catalyst. When I sat down to write this poem, I did not have a thought in my head about Jeffrey Hartman who had been dead then for three years. And so it became a kind of portrait of Jeffrey's gentleness and ability to see things in texts that weren't there in a certain way until he saw them.
