Do You Need a System for This?
Many groups that I've run over the years have tried to start with, can we talk to it? Can we get around it? Or do we have to fight it? The idea that you can do that every round and you could sort of stop a fight makes sense. But even that, I don't think that's the mechanics that get in the way. If you start attacking and killing people, it's not likely you're going to convince the other people to be your friends. Once combat is started, once you've caused wounds, I think that that makes it difficult.
