The Role of Ritual in OCD
The fear and avoidance ritual cycle may begin when an individual is under high periods of stress but it also may extend throughout the course of their life. OCD sufferers fear their own thoughts and attempt to neutralize these negative feelings that arise from their thoughts by avoiding situations where these rituals cannot happen. Some other obsessions include exaggerated responsibility believing that one is solely responsible for the safety or harm of others.
