Dogs are creatures of habit, so if we establish habitual patterns with them, they learn those really rapidly. Research looked at the intensity of the greeting that dogs give to their people when somebody's been gone a half an hour or an hour or several hours. They're sensitive to that feeling of the time that you've been missing, but they also are very adaptable and will endure the same time again and again and again without over anxiety.
