The Iron Age and the Mediterranean

The Iron Age would seem to share at a basic level a lot in common with both the Bronze and Classical periods. What separates it from the period before, I would argue, is one of scale. So yes, we had trade, we had exchange, we had movement of people before but it was more regional towards the Eastern Mediterranean or Central Mediterranean. But what we see in the Iron Age is the whole Mediterranean, and so it's on an unprecedented scale geographically; there have to be people to sustain that.
