The r c m p, the current police that we have, related to canada's first police. The dominion police force was started in response to an assassination of a man named thomas mc gee. He was killed by irish nationalists, the fenian brotherhood. They wanted to end british rule in ireland. John mac donald looked around and decided the country should have a country wide police force. It modelled it after ireland's police, the royal irish constabulary. And since johnny mac donald wanted canada to have control in the northwest territories, where indigenous people were not, he knew he was going to need force for them.
