Smedley and the American Legion
Smedley follows the convention in the papers. He notes with some amusement, a deluge of telegrams delivered to the delegates and sees that the assembly passed a measure calling for a resumption of the gold standard. In late August, Smedley agrees to a secret meeting at Philadelphia's Bellevue Hotel with his favorite Hollywood film star, Ruby Keeler.
