The Chesterton's Fence and the Social Desirability Bias
I think the Chesterton's fence is basically just an excuse for continuing doing obviously bad things without any argument. I'd say that a lot of what's going on with the culture war is that, almost for the first time in history, the left has picked a bunch of things that just sound really bad and then they are good at repackaging them. But it's just really hard to go and make elective amputations on kids into something that sounds good. It's more like the other stuff is a smokescreen for what they really wanna do, which is have much bigger government and less stricter regulation.
